Maintenance director Ryan Shirley told the Natchitoches Parish School Board that routine repairs are keeping facilities functional but that some recurring problems need larger investments. Shirley reported 131 work orders in the period (104 completed, 27 pending) and an average response time of about 2.03 days.
Shirley described three repair options at Fairview Alpha: a temporary patch estimated at $15,000–$20,000; targeted permanent work on the problem area estimated at about $141,000; and a full reroof estimated around $1,000,000. He urged the board to consider conserving funds to complete the targeted permanent fix when the school year ends so work could be done when students are not in the building.
On plumbing, Shirley said replacing copper piping would cost an estimated $160,000–$170,000. He explained PEX was cheaper but that the district's water‑treatment chemicals would accelerate PEX deterioration; maintaining water treatment would therefore be required regardless of material choice.
Board members asked for school‑level detail to be restored to future maintenance reports; one board member said the district should include specific items per school so trustees and the public can track needs.
Shirley also described an awning repeatedly damaged by vehicles; two responsible drivers had issued checks but district staff are still reconciling deposits and insurance receipts before deciding whether replacement or repair is possible.
