Lancaster County names four to Extension Board for 2026—1 term

The Lancaster County Board of Commissioners voted Dec. 9 to appoint four people to the county Extension Board for three-year terms beginning Jan. 1, 2026, and ending Dec. 31, 2028.
Tracy Gordon, who introduced herself as executive director of the Nebraska Association for the Education of Young Children, told commissioners the nonprofit works to "improve the quality of childcare services so that all children in child care have an opportunity to thrive and grow in a quality environment." Theresa Erkamp, employed by School District 145 in Waverly, said she manages the district's student information systems program and works with families in need. Michael Gropp said he is a lifelong resident and farmer in southwest Lancaster County and has participated in numerous extension programs, including 4-H and on-farm research projects. Zainab Rita was listed as a reappointment to the board.
Commissioners praised the slate as representative of community volunteerism and moved, seconded, and approved the appointments by voice/roll call vote. Chair Rick Vest thanked the appointees for their willingness to serve.
The appointments were presented as part of routine new-business items; the board took no additional action beyond the swearing-in scheduling and expression of thanks.
