Lincoln County approves police-services interlocal agreement with Village of Maxwell

The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners approved an interlocal agreement Nov. 24 authorizing the county sheriff's office to provide police services to the Village of Maxwell.
Sheriff Kramer and county staff described recent discussions with Maxwell officials. County counsel and the sheriff's office explained that villages must submit their ordinances to the clerk/magistrate and the Supreme Court posting system before county officers can issue electronic citations; the sheriff said Maxwell currently has no ordinances in that system, so Maxwell must select and submit the ordinances it wants enforced.
Board members discussed the practical effects and timeline for updating ordinances, enforcement limitations under current statutory procedures, and the historical pattern of on-again/off-again contracts with small villages. After clarifying questions, a motion was made to authorize the chair to sign the interlocal agreement as presented and the board approved it by roll call.
The agreement does not change the requirement that Maxwell update and publish ordinances for electronic enforcement; county staff said they would coordinate with Maxwell on implementation steps.
