The Blount County Commission moved through a number of routine but substantive items on Nov. 20, unanimously approving multiple budget adjustments, routine appointments and scheduling a zoning public hearing.
Budget committee recommendations carried by voice vote included:
- Resolution 25-11-005: $71,500 to appropriate education capital funds for a full-depth parking lot replacement at William Blount High School (adopted 20–0). - Resolution 25-11-006: $71,472 to fund a feasibility study on property across from Wallen Elementary School (adopted 20–0). - Resolution 25-11-001: $2,625,300 to replace the roof at Heritage Middle School (adopted 20–0). - Several other school and capital adjustments (resolutions 2511002, 2511003, 2511004, 2511015) were likewise adopted with favorable recommendations from the budget committee.
Appointments approved included a four-year reappointment to the Veterans' Affairs Committee (Frank C. Kasowski Jr.) and multiple appointments to the Blount County Sheriff’s Office corrections disciplinary review board and the planning commission.
The commission also set a zoning public hearing to consider an amendment to section 7.2(c) of the zoning regulations concerning open-space requirements for cluster developments; the hearing is scheduled for Jan. 8 at 5:30 p.m.
Most votes on these items were announced by the clerk as unanimous (20 yes), and the meeting concluded with a brief public-input period with no off-agenda speakers and an adjournment by unanimous consent.
