On Dec. 18, 2025, the Blount County Board of County Commissioners adopted multiple budget-increase resolutions totaling roughly $790,520 for school facilities and sheriff’s office needs and approved a slate of board appointments, each motion carrying by recorded voice vote (17–0).
MARYVILLE, Tenn. — The Blount County Board of County Commissioners on Dec. 18 approved a series of budget increases for school and county facilities, accepted candidate rankings for an industrial board vacancy and confirmed several appointments to local advisory boards.
The commission adopted four budget-related resolutions that the budget committee had previously recommended by unanimous vote. The measures include a $131,550 appropriation for HVAC units at Heritage Middle School, $48,730 to increase the motor-vehicle line for the Blount County Sheriff’s Office using proceeds from auctioned surplus vehicles, $31,240 to replace two school roofs at Union Grove Middle School and Porter Elementary School, and a $559,000 education-capital appropriation to replace baseball and softball field lights at Heritage High School.
Why it matters: The actions fund maintenance and safety-related capital work across multiple Blount County schools and replenish sheriff’s office vehicle funding without using new property-tax levies. The commission recorded unanimous recorded votes for each item, signaling broad support for the capital and operational expenses.

Commissioner Giles praised county staff during announcements, thanking legal counsel and purchasing personnel for what he called ‘their level of professionalism… and their level of communication back to me to help educate me was outstanding.’
What’s next: The county’s budget committee will meet in early January and other committees listed the clerk will reconvene for routine business; the items adopted become part of the county’s official records and will move to implementation by the responsible departments.
