After public safety plea, Roane County approves stop sign on Quarry Road

A resident’s plea about heavy gravel trucks failing to yield prompted the Roane County Commission to approve a resolution changing a yield sign to a stop sign on Quarry Road.
Isaac Dawson told the commission he had been nearly trapped between loaded and empty gravel trucks on Swamp On Circle and asked the county to review signage and striping. “Those trucks...their weight's probably about 40 tons. And it's hard to stop just on a minute's notice,” Dawson said during public comment and offered photos to county staff.
Commissioner Henderson moved the resolution to replace the yield sign with a stop sign; commissioners cited firsthand observations and recommended additional measures such as rumble strips to increase driver awareness. The resolution carried 15-0.
The clerk recorded the action as a formal resolution to change the sign; staff and the road committee will coordinate implementation and consider further traffic-calming features.
