YANKTON COUNTY — At its December meeting the Yankton County Commission handled several routine items alongside a larger bridge discussion.
Actions taken
- The commission authorized the Highway Department to advertise for gravel bids for a West-side county section line; motion carried by voice vote.
- The commission authorized advertising and scheduling a hearing to vacate a section line that the parish council says runs through part of St. John’s (Seagull) church and cemetery; motion carried.
- The board approved the 2026 4‑H memorandum of understanding (extension of the 2025 agreement), noting there were no substantive changes.
- In claims processing, commissioners discussed a $7,827 poor-relief payment and directed staff to request a third-party payment. They approved all claims except that poor-relief item pending payment within the requested timeframe.
- The commission approved the November 2025 payroll.
- Commissioners authorized advertising a year-end budget supplement for the court ($120,000) and jail building ($70,000); staff said contingency and the general fund will address year-end variances.
