Jackson readies holiday season: Nutcracker, Christmas Cottage and Dec. 1 parade with tree lighting

Ballet Arts’ Nutcracker will run Nov. 28–30; evening performances on Thursday–Saturday are scheduled for 7 p.m. with a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m., and tickets are available at balletartsjackson.org or at the door. Young performers Olivia Botters and Livi Leigh said the company rehearses weekends and stage roles often span a wide youth age range in the production.
The free Christmas Cottage market, led by Family and Community Education Clubs through UT Extension and chaired by Chris Ann Blair, is set for Nov. 21 (9 a.m.–7 p.m.) and Nov. 22 (9 a.m.–5 p.m.) at 309 North Parkway in the Madison County Ag Complex. Blair said the event includes handcrafted and baked goods, online presale options for some items, and a Santa visit Saturday from 12:00 to 4:30 p.m.
Jackson’s tree lighting and Christmas parade are scheduled for Monday, Dec. 1. Hosts said the tree-lighting ceremony will begin at 5:15 p.m. in front of City Hall, followed by a 6:30 p.m. parade. Parade organizers named Dr. Marlon King, the school system superintendent, as grand marshal and said they had about 70 entries registered; participants were encouraged to register at parkjacksontn.gov with a suggested deadline of Nov. 21.
