Home Instead launches ‘Be a Santa to a Senior’ drive with goal to reach 100 veterans

Home Instead’s local team told viewers on '6 in the City' that this year’s 'Be a Santa to a Senior' campaign is aiming to sign up about 100 veteran seniors for holiday support. “Last year, we started out with 30. We ended up with 50. And this year, the goal is a 100 veterans,” a Home Instead representative said on the program.

Volunteers or community partners may adopt a bulb from a display at the Home Instead office, purchase a small set of items from a senior’s wish list (examples given included favorite candy, pajamas and Sudoku books), return the unwrapped gifts to the office, and participate in a wrapping party before confidential delivery. Program organizers said the campaign covers seniors across 10 counties in West Tennessee and emphasized confidentiality and HIPAA constraints for deliveries.

Organizers provided local logistics for participation: the office is listed at 196 Cheyenne Drive in Jackson, and walk-ins are welcome Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.; the group also posts event information on social media and on homeinsteadjackson.com.

The program’s organizers stressed that the gift and the visit are both intended to address isolation in older veterans and to connect seniors with other community resources. For those who want to participate but cannot deliver in person, staff will handle deliveries to preserve recipients’ privacy.
