City of Eden council converts Glovinia–Early intersection from signal to four-way stop after resident concern

The Eden City Council voted Dec. 16 to remove the traffic signal at the intersection of Glovinia Street and Early Avenue and convert the intersection to a four-way stop following a traffic study presented by staff.
Melinda Ward summarized a before-and-after traffic study and said speeds have decreased since signs were installed for the trial; she recommended adopting the four-way stop. Cynthia Wenders Kishaka, a nearby resident, opposed removal of the signal and urged the council to keep the traffic light to protect pedestrians. “I am very much in favor of continuing to keep a traffic light there because more people will stop fully and give pedestrians a chance to cross the street safely,” she said.
After a short public hearing with no other speakers, the council moved, seconded and approved the ordinance by voice vote.
The ordinance will take effect according to the city’s traffic-control implementation schedule and signage will be finalized by city public works.
What’s next: Public works will complete signage and monitor the intersection for compliance and pedestrian safety.
