William Sizemore, a Madison resident, asked the Lake County Board of Commissioners on Dec. 11 to reinstate warning signs for farm equipment on Lake Road East after he said signs installed around 2006 were removed.
"I'm determined to get this resolved, so I'm bringing this to your attention, hoping you can help me before a tragedy occurs because of it," Sizemore said. He gave his address (7228 Lake Road East), described three parcels he owns near Erie Shores Golf Course and Cleveland Avenue, and said he had contacted county engineer staff multiple times without receiving a return call.
Sizemore told the board he spoke with Tracy Sokowitz in the county engineer's office on July 1, 2024, who told him the signs would be ordered, and that he left a message for Tracy Sokowitz and James R. Gills on Sept. 9, 2024. He said he spoke with Alan Exley on Sept. 10, 2025, and emailed Exley on Nov. 9, 2025 asking when the signs would be reinstalled.
The board asked the county administrator to follow up with the engineer's office and to seek a response; one member noted that the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) can sometimes affect sign placement. Staff agreed to obtain the resident's contact information and get back in touch.
The board did not adopt a formal motion at the workshop. Staff said they would contact the resident to clarify locations and next steps; the matter remained unresolved at adjournment.
