Board approves public-safety and school security grants totaling $101,968

The Henry County Board of Supervisors approved two grant appropriations Dec. 16 that the agenda linked to public-safety and school security needs.
Public-safety staff asked the board to appropriate a $35,000 grant from the American Electric Power Foundation to buy a cleaning system for self-contained breathing apparatus and other firefighting equipment to be located at the Patriot Center fire station; the board approved the appropriation.
Separately, the school board requested an additional appropriation of $66,968 from the Department of Criminal Justice Services to support school security officer positions at two high schools. Staff noted the grant carries a local match requirement of $19,414, which the school board plans to cover in its FY2026–27 budgets. The board approved that appropriation as presented.
Both motions passed without recorded opposition.
