The Henry County Board of Supervisors voted Dec. 16 to award a sole-source contract to Motorola Solutions for a $914,181 emergency services radio-system upgrade.
Public-safety staff described the multiyear program to modernize microwave and tower-site equipment used by the sheriffs office, volunteer fire and rescue departments and parks staff. Staff recommended completing all remaining phases at once to lock 2025 pricing; they projected savings of $665,443 compared with a three-year phased implementation. To fund the project, staff proposed using $264,181 from the radio improvements fund and transferring $650,000 from the countys capital discretionary fund.
A supervisor moved approval of the contract award and the transfer; the motion was seconded and passed unanimously. The board also directed staff to proceed with procurement under the Virginia state contract pricing cited in the packet.
