Essex County has signed a letter of intent with McClure Energy to conduct an energy audit of county buildings, and the county scheduled McClure to begin the on‑site work next Wednesday, officials said.
The presiding official said the school board approved participation at its meeting the night before and directed the superintendent to sign a similar letter of intent so the audit can cover school facilities as well.
"They said, takes about 2 to 3 months to do that in‑depth study and come up with a really hard numbers," the presiding official said, adding that the board could expect results in December or January to inform the next budget cycle. County staff said they will coordinate site visits and follow up with details for departments affected by the audit.
No McClure Energy representatives spoke at the meeting; the county did not provide contract dollar amounts during the session.
