Storey County commissioners authorized the county manager on Nov. 18 to negotiate with the Nevada Department of Transportation and adjacent property owners to develop temporary traffic signal access and driveway improvements at the USA Parkway/Waltham Way intersection.
County Manager Austin Osborne said NDOT requires space on adjacent private parcels for temporary signal devices and that some property owners requested vehicle barriers or boulders to prevent unauthorized access; public works staff said they could perform some county work in‑kind. The authorization allows agreements up to $25,000 (budgeted regional transportation assistance funds or equivalent in‑kind work), subject to district attorney legal review and ratification by the board.
Commissioners approved the authorization unanimously. Osborne noted the installation may remain temporary or could become permanent depending on NDOT and site circumstances; staff will return ratified contracts to the board for review.
