County Manager Austin Osborne said the donation process has been under negotiation for several years to secure space for future burials and historic preservation work. Osborne said the parcel is being cleared after surveying and addressing mining‑claim issues; about 16,000 square feet of the donated acreage will be reserved for a family plot under the agreement.
Osborne described the gift as a long‑running local accommodation and thanked the landowner for the donation. There was no public comment against the proposal. Commissioner Mitchell moved to approve the donation agreement and the motion carried unanimously.
What happens next: staff will finalize and record the donation agreement and manage the parcel under the county’s interlocal operation arrangement with the Comstock Cemetery Foundation.
