DeKalb County commissioners on Dec. 22 opened bids for work at Sunny Meadows, took the bids under advisement and approved immediate steps to clear personal items from the facility and close out operations.
Commissioners recorded multiple bids for the Sunny Meadows project and decided to review bid tabs and return with recommendations at the next meeting. In advance of a final decision on whether to sell or demo the property, commissioners approved hiring an auctioneer to inventory and remove contents; one prior bidder had withdrawn and the board subsequently approved a contract with a different auctioneer for contents disposition. The board also authorized up to two 30-yard dumpsters to remove unsaleable items and approved up to $1,000 for a mattress and dresser replacement (county-ordered purchase to maintain documentation and control of the expenditure) due to concerns about bed bugs for the final resident.
Earlier in the meeting a county official reported the county council had approved an ordinance providing Sunny Meadows employees a stipend (full-time employees $2,000; part-time employees $1,000). Commissioners said they would coordinate final bid review in two weeks and proceed with interior cleanout in the meantime.
