Commissioner: Whitley County misses Community Crossing grant; tower operational and probation offices to move

During the Dec. 2 Whitley County Council meeting, Commissioner Theresa reported that the county was not awarded this year's Community Crossing Matching Grant and that staff will reapply in the next cycle.
"We were not awarded this year's community crossing matching grant," Commissioner Theresa said, adding that the county received only a small letter with no substantive feedback. She said the county will meet with NDOT, talk to state legislators and reapply in July; she noted that the program can award up to $2 million in a cycle and that the county will try to improve its application.
Theresa also reported progress on local infrastructure and office moves: she said the county's communications tower "has been completely moved ... it's operational," with no dispatch complaints reported. She said probation's physical move is scheduled between Jan. 12 and Jan. 19 and that some files require certified handlers, so records transfers will occur on a dedicated day.
The commissioner asked staff to notify the council by email or text when probation and government offices are fully relocated. No formal action on the grant decision occurred during the meeting; council members asked staff to pursue feedback and reapply in the next cycle.
