Highway Superintendent reported that Grant County was awarded $850,949.50 through the Community Crossing program to fund two bridge projects — one on 1100 South and one on 700 South — and recommended combining the projects into a single bid to improve contractor interest and pricing. The board agreed and a bid opening was proposed for Feb. 2, 2026; the superintendent also set Jan. 19 for the county’s annual fuel and stone bids for 2026.
For Bridge 102 the department said three parcels will require acquisition, with proposed amounts of $5,300, $350 and $6,625; one parcel has a mortgage-release issue requiring legal review. The superintendent said staff will obtain appraisals and discuss terms with homeowners.
The highway department reported remaining ARPA highway funds had been drawn down for recent purchases and that approximately $40,000 remained; the department proposed equipment purchases to complete the program. Staff recommended a larger Kubota skid steer (to provide adequate hydraulic flow for a planer) priced at $79,900 plus a compatible planer and a mini excavator. Commissioners moved to approve the recommended skid steer, excavator and planer; motion carried by voice vote. Staff will finalize procurement and delivery scheduling.
