Residents urge greater transparency and scrutiny of solar projects; cite missing minutes and pending court case

Several members of the public used the county board's public-comment period to raise concerns about community solar and how the county communicates project information.

One commenter described solar and wind projects as ineffective and harmful, calling them a "scam" and questioning the expertise of consultants and the long-term consequences for soil and water. Another speaker asked directly whether the county board's website is being kept up to date, noting that minutes from the March 17 hearing were not yet posted and asking where citizens could find new applications. That speaker also referenced a pending circuit-court case involving NeuroSolar in Paris (Judge Matthew Sullivan) and said the county should conduct more local, fine-tooth-comb reviews of project plans beyond checking state requirements.

County staff responded that minutes for March 17 are pending approval at the next meeting and therefore not yet posted, and that no new solar applications have been filed since the earlier hearings. The board heard the complaints and continued with agenda items that included approving decommissioning and road-use agreements for nearby projects.

The public comments flagged transparency and oversight as recurring local concerns. The board's staff and members acknowledged the need to improve communication and said they would work to address how updates and application filings are displayed to the public.
