County seeks state bridge grants after inspection report shows 28 posted structures

The Lincoln County Highway Department updated commissioners Dec. 2 on the county’s 2025 bridge inspections and sought authorization to execute three bridge improvement grant applications. Assistant Highway Superintendent Jared Nairam said the county inspects 140 bridges (32 weighted) and ended the year with 28 posted structures; four bridges are slated for replacement in the next couple of years.
Nairam explained preservation work by county forces brought several structures back to legal load ratings and noted the department is pursuing major grant funding (80/20 cost share) for three projects. Commissioners moved and approved a motion authorizing the chair to sign the necessary grant forms (one signature will cover the three listed structures) so the county may apply for state funding and pursue construction in the following year if awarded.
The board approved the authorization by roll call. The county will proceed with grant submission and return with contract paperwork and project schedules if awards are received.
