Derek Wilson appeared before the Madison County Board of Commissioners Dec. 16 to be considered for appointment to the Mid Ohio Regional Sewer & Water board.
Wilson described himself as a multi-generation county resident who owns several properties and businesses and serves as controller/CFO at a local Chevrolet dealership. He asked commissioners about the expected time commitment and said he would make himself available to be brought up to speed by current Mid Ohio board members and the director.
Commissioners emphasized that their appointees should convey county priorities while serving independently on the Mid Ohio board. One commissioner raised a recent episode in which they had asked an appointee to resign and were rebuffed; the commissioner asked whether Wilson would sign a pledge to resign if the commissioners unanimously requested it. Wilson said he would be willing to make such a pledge, noting that it would not have legal force but could serve as a commitment of intent.
Commissioners indicated they would follow up with Mid Ohio and the board—staff, coordinate onboarding steps for a new appointee and expect to act on the vacancy within the next two weeks.
