Richland County finance committee approves claims list, defers salary adjustments and calls for software review

At the Feb. 13 meeting, the Richland County Board heard finance committee reports that adjusted the county claims list and recommended future reviews of personnel and software needs.
Finance reported that a road-salt purchase was invoiced at $102.20 per ton and that the vendor delivered 53.42 tons, resulting in an adjustment claim for approximately 3.22 extra tons. Additional late claims included a sheriff's office service contract license fee of $1,155 and a body-bag expense charged to ARPA for $1,988.08. After adjustments, the finance report listed county claims of about $214,510.61 and non-county claims near $198,174.70 as presented at the meeting.
Committee members discussed a proposed $50,000 pool for potential salary adjustments but decided to postpone action until they had more months of fiscal-year data; staff said the funds could likely be found in the present general fund if needed. The finance committee also recommended scheduling meetings to evaluate the county's existing software system, examine advantages and disadvantages, and consider costs and alternatives before making formal recommendations.
The board approved the claims as presented by voice vote.
