County committee approves $254,660 contract for climate-action community engagement

A Shelby County committee approved a resolution to contract with Works Inc. for $254,660.25 to provide community engagement services supporting a Mid-South comprehensive climate action plan (RFQ 24-002-16). The contract term will run upon execution through June 30, 2026, with an option to renew for one additional year, and will be paid from FY2026 grant funds.
Lee Huffman Moyer, with the Division of Planning and Development's Office of Sustainability and Resilience, said the award is tied to a climate pollution reduction grant the county received in 2024 and that the engagement work will "identify community and resident priorities, which will help us create the goals and recommendations included in the comprehensive climate action plan." The item was moved, seconded and received aye votes from Commissioners Sugarman and Bradford in committee.
The committee recorded a favorable recommendation and the contract will move forward to whatever final approval steps the county requires for grant-funded procurements.
