The Story County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously to provide a county letter of support for three grant applications submitted by the Virginia City Main Street organization to the Nevada Main Street program administered by the Governor’s Office of Economic Development.
Laura Mather introduced the request and turned the presentation to Alexia Sober, who described the three projects: a Tall Tales Heritage Project to revive local storytelling and programming; a Virginia City Street Scene "then-and-now" installation of temporary historic images along the commercial corridor; and a façade improvement microgrant program offering $1,000–$3,000 mini‑grants to property owners for historically appropriate restoration. Sober said each project targets a June 2027 completion window and that the organization requested letters of support for each application.
Commissioner Mitchell moved to approve providing a county letter of support and to authorize staff to fine‑tune wording to ensure the letter reflects the level and type of county support; the motion passed unanimously. The board and applicant also discussed that logistical permitting support would likely be part of county assistance if grants are awarded.
