The Bremer County Board of Supervisors convened for its organizational meeting and confirmed its 2026 leadership, administrative rules and routine resolutions. The board appointed Bob Runcornfield as chair and confirmed Corey Zarenski as vice chair, and voted to hold its regular meetings on Tuesdays.
The board approved a group of annual resolutions by voice vote. Resolution 2601 set meeting dates and attendance procedures; Resolution 2602 named the county's official newspapers as read into the record; Resolution 2603 designated the county engineer contact for farm market projects; Resolution 2604 gave the county engineer authority to order emergency road closures; Resolution 2605 addressed economic development; and Resolution 2607 appointed two liaisons to ICAP. Resolution 2608 (adopting certain compliance documents) was discussed and deferred to the next meeting to allow completion of missing materials. Resolution 2609, authorizing recurring expenses, was amended on the floor to explicitly include electricity (along with light, water and gas) and the amended resolution passed.
The board also approved routine administrative actions: minutes from the Dec. 23 meeting, authorization for the auditor to issue checks for approved claims, and a series of personnel actions across departments. The board moved to approve hires and step increases including positions listed for the sheriff-related functions, treasurer's office staff, and community services positions; one supervisor recused themself from a Treasurer's office step increase for a stated conflict of interest before the vote.
On administrative policy, the board set the mileage reimbursement at $0.50 per mile for the first quarter after brief discussion about local fuel-price variation. The board authorized the chair to sign lien waivers related to U.S. Department of Agriculture commodity credit program transactions, agreeing to adopt that authorization annually so new supervisors are reminded of the process.
The meeting concluded with a lengthy round of committee and board appointments and confirmations. Several appointments were completed (including the Conservation Board appointment of Scott Wickham), others were deferred pending contact with nominees, and incumbents agreed to remain on multiple regional and advisory boards. The board adjourned after approving those appointments.
