Board awards detention-center medical contract to Southern Health Services pending staff and legal review
Summary
Commissioners voted to award the county's detention-center medical services contract to Southern Health Services, the lone bidder, saving about $100,000 compared with the previous turnkey arrangement; award is conditioned on staff and KCAMP insurance review and final contract approval.

Harvey County commissioners on Dec. 23 approved awarding the detention-center medical-services contract to Southern Health Services, the single respondent to the county's RFP. County staff told the board Southern's proposal was roughly $100,000 less than the county's prior turnkey contract and included four hours of on-site mental-health services in addition to medical coverage.
Staff asked the board to approve the award 'pending staff review' so that Southern can finalize the contract and, once it clears legal and insurance review (KCAMP), execute and begin services as scheduled. Commissioners agreed the pending-approval option mirrors past practice for similar contracts, with the understanding that staff and counsel could hold the contract if issues arise during review.
The motion to approve the award pending staff and legal review carried without recorded roll-call of individual votes. Staff will return executed contract documents to the commission and coordinate start dates with the vendor.
