Harvey County approves five-year Axon contract for taser replacements, waives purchasing policy

Harvey County commissioners voted Dec. 23 to waive the county's purchasing policy and authorize staff to sign a five-year contract with Axon for taser-device replacement.
Undersheriff Sean Chapman told the board Axon now owns the Taser product line and the company bundles devices on a five-year contract. He said a 5% price increase is expected after Jan. 1 and that obtaining a signed contract within two weeks would avoid that increase. The commission approved staff authority to sign the contract and accepted the payment schedule the sheriff's office presented.
At the meeting a board member provided the contract payment figures: an annual payment of $33,770.64 and a total contract amount of $168,853.20 over five years. Commissioners voted in favor of the motion to waive policy and allow staff to finalize the agreement.
Staff said devices would likely arrive in February or March and that the contract includes device replacement by year four. The contract is a capital and operational commitment with multi-year budget implications.
