Carnegie Center opens 'Suede in Blue' gallery with community Christmas party Dec. 18

Aaron Harden of the Carnegie Center described a gallery exhibition and community Christmas party titled 'Suede in Blue,' opening with a free event this Thursday, Dec. 18, from 6–8 p.m. The show pairs visual responses to Carl Perkins’ "Blue Suede Shoes" by 16 local artists; works include a commissioned sculpture, quilts, dresses, cyanotype photography, paintings and mixed media.
Harden said the gallery seeks to bridge art forms—music, visual art and performance—and emphasized the Carnegie’s community orientation: attendees are welcome to come as they are, with hot chocolate and family-friendly activities. The exhibition was curated from open summer submissions and narrowed to 16 pieces chosen to play off one another for a cohesive public experience.
The Carnegie Center invited residents to the free opening and noted the museum’s aim to be inclusive: "If you wanna wear your house shoes, we got hot chocolate for you," Harden said, urging community participation. Artists and viewers can expect a broad mix of media and a sculpture created specifically for the show.
