Summary
Organizers Paige Keith and Beth Bolton say registration is open through Jan. 12 (3 p.m.) for the Jan. 31 qualifying round at Hub City Brewing; winners may advance to Memphis and the Bluebird in Nashville. The Jackson event is free and open to the public.
Paige Keith and Beth Bolton, representing the Tennessee Songwriters competition, said the Jackson qualifying round is slated for Jan. 31 at Hub City Brewing and is open to songwriters statewide. Registration is open now through Jan. 12 (cutoff 3 p.m.), and organizers said they will limit entries (roughly 20–30 depending on interest).
Keith said the contest is “a chance for regional songwriters to shine in the spotlight and win a competition, hopefully, to move on to a semifinal round in Memphis, which will then take them on to Nashville to compete in the finals at the Bluebird.” The Jackson round will be open to the public and is free to attend; competitive rounds in other counties and regions feed into the statewide process.
Organizers emphasized that judging focuses on songwriting rather than vocal performance. “It’s all about the song,” one organizer said, and noted that if performers use instruments they should bring them; standard instruments such as keyboards are recommended over large acoustic pianos.
For registration and details, organizers directed interested songwriters and attendees to visit jacksontn.com or the event’s Facebook page. The Jackson round will include a free concert by Lolo after the competition; the local event runs roughly 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., followed by the performance.
The organizers encouraged early registration because of a limit on entrants and said judges follow guidelines provided through the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development.
