Culpeper board honors departing Jefferson District member Deborah Desilets

The Culpeper County School Board on Dec. 8 presented a resolution honoring Deborah Desilets for her service to the Jefferson District from Jan. 11, 2021, through December 2025.
Miss Smith read the resolution, which listed accomplishments the board and staff attributed to Desilets' tenure: progress in student achievement, implementation of the CCPS Yonder bell-to-bell cell-phone policy, the renovation of Culpeper Middle School, purchase of six electric buses, and work to identify and site an additional elementary school. The resolution was adopted with an adopted-date printed as Dec. 8, 2025.
Resident Toni Sheets told the board she lives in the Jefferson District and spoke to her appreciation: “I greatly appreciate your time and effort,” Sheets said, thanking Desilets for her dedication to students and for attending meetings both for routine and major matters.
In her remarks, Desilets reflected on being appointed to the board, the challenges of COVID-era decision-making and her focus on career and technical education, student safety, and parental choice in education. She thanked staff, fellow board members and administrators by name and urged continued collaboration.
Board members offered additional tributes during board member comments, thanking Desilets for her service and welcoming Toni Sheets as her successor in the Jefferson District.
