Tessa Murphy Ramboletti was elected council president on the first ballot during Holyoke's inaugural meeting, and Israel Rivera was chosen as vice president on a separate first-ballot roll call, the council recorded.
The council moved quickly through two formal roll-call votes after a member made and a seconded a motion to proceed to first-ballot elections. After members cast votes, the clerk announced that Tessa Murphy Ramboletti was "appointed on the first ballot" for president and that Israel Rivera was "appointed on the first ballot" for vice president.
The newly sworn president delivered brief remarks thanking staff, family and voters, and congratulated Rivera. "I am deeply honored and, as always, still a little amazed to be standing before you," the president said, noting a return to the role for a second presidential term and a third term overall on the council. The president also highlighted that the council now has a majority of women, "8 out of 13," and said the body reflects a wider range of backgrounds and neighborhoods across Holyoke.
Following the elections, members conducted a random drawing to assign seating. The procedure was informal and intended to determine seat placements; members discussed logistics and scheduled any final rearrangements for the next meeting.
A member moved to adjourn at the meeting's close; the motion was seconded, members answered "Aye," and the president declared the meeting adjourned.
The meeting record shows attendance by Anderson Burgos, Devine, Graney, Meg McGrath Smith, Masonette, Murfia Ambletti, Panitch, Purcell, Israel Rivera, Jenny Rivera, Mike Sullivan, Tallheimer and Linda Bacon (responses recorded during roll call). No ordinances, resolutions or budget items were debated or voted on during this session.
