Beaufort County Parks & Recreation has opened spring youth registration for several programs and announced upcoming family events and hiring opportunities, BCTV reported.
Registration for spring youth lacrosse, baseball and softball in Bluffton and Beaufort runs through Jan. 30, the broadcast said. Spring youth soccer and flag football registration is open through Feb. 13. Parks & Rec also listed openings for sports officials and directed applicants to bcscrec.com. The county highlighted several free and low-cost community events: a free 90-minute guided birding walk at Crystal Lake Park on Wednesday, Jan. 7, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.; two recreation facility groundbreakings (Wesley Felix Park and Ballpark Road on St. Helena on Jan. 7 at 10 a.m., and the Agnes Major Center in Sheldon on Jan. 9 at 10 a.m.); and a discounted presale ticket window for Island Rec Center's Snow Day at Shelter Cove Park on Jan. 31 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., featuring inflatables, a snow field and entertainment. Presale admission prices listed were $8 per child ages 217 and $6 for each additional child; door admission is $10 for ages 217 and free for others.
In local sports coverage, BCTV will carry Bridges Prep Buccaneers at Whale Branch Warriors high school basketball on Tuesday, Jan. 6, with the girls' game at 6:00 p.m. and the boys' game at 7:30 p.m.; the games will be simulcast on YouTube with commentator Javonne Livingston.
