The Henry County Board of Supervisors on Jan. 2 elected Jim Adams chair and Travis Pruitt vice chair and approved several organizational items, including the 2026 meeting calendar and the board’s bylaws.
The board first authorized the county administrator to preside over the meeting during the officer elections; that motion was moved by an unidentified member and approved by voice vote, recorded as 6-0. Mister Wagner then nominated Jim Adams as chair; Adams was the sole nominee and was confirmed by the board. Mister Wagner nominated Travis Pruitt for vice chair; Pruitt was likewise confirmed without additional nominations.
Why it matters: organizational votes set leadership and procedures that guide the board’s work for the year, including meeting schedules and who presides over discussions.
After the officer elections, the board adopted a proposed 2026 meeting calendar (generally the fourth Tuesday of each month, with December moved earlier) following a motion to approve that calendar; the motion was seconded and adopted 6-0. The board also adopted its 2026 bylaws, again by a 6-0 voice vote. At the meeting, the new chair said he appreciated the board’s confidence and that he was "willing to serve," and emphasized collaborative decision-making.
Other procedural business included scheduling the annual planning session for Feb. 9 at 3 p.m., a motion that was seconded and approved 6-0. The meeting concluded after a motion to adjourn passed by the same margin.
What’s next: the board will convene on the dates adopted in the calendar and hold the planning session in February; the January agenda will include a closed-session item to review nominations for a consultant/award that the board discussed during today’s meeting.
