Facilities director highlights preventive maintenance, energy measures and a $327,000 grant for abatement

Jeff Zimmerman (facilities leadership) told the joint governance meeting that the facilities department prioritizes safety, functionality and cost by extending asset life through preventive maintenance and disciplined capital planning.
Zimmerman said the district has extended roof lives beyond warranty periods and noted some HVAC units have lasted 27 years. He described a 10-year capital funding plan used to plan and stagger projects, and said the district applies a repair-versus-replace analysis to preserve long-term value. The district has completed LED retrofits across schools and participates in a demand-response program that both aids the grid and produces rebate income.
Zimmerman noted the district applied for Pennsylvania facility improvement grants but was awarded a Pennsylvania environmental grant of $327,000 about 18 months earlier; the grant will fund flooring asbestos abatement at a middle school. He also said the district does as much trade and construction work in-house as feasible to control costs and uses cooperative purchasing networks for materials and services.
Facilities staff said they will continue the capital plan, pursue external rebates and maintain preventive maintenance practices to stretch asset lifespans and reduce total cost of ownership.
