Presenters outlined graduation requirements for the upcoming graduating class, noting a total of 25.5 credits (including a 0.5 community-service credit). The committee discussed credit-promotion thresholds (5 credits to reach 10th grade; 11 for 11th) and described supports such as credit-recovery programs. Staff said counselors will meet with students and that course-selection timelines will run from February through March.
The committee also described curricular updates across departments: English course renames and weight-chart clarifications; science alignment to state standards; computer science pathway expansions (including AP options and an introductory cybersecurity course); and updates to career/financial literacy. Staff said the previous combined course "career and financial literacy" will become a standalone financial-literacy course to meet a state requirement (identified in discussion as Act 35). Doctor Mays clarified the community-service graduation requirement is 12 hours over four years; about half the junior class has already met the requirement and the district will notify students at semester end of their logged hours.
