Whitehall-Coplay board reorganizes; Bill Fonzone elected president, George McCool named vice president

The Whitehall-Coplay School Board convened its annual reorganization meeting Dec. 2 and completed officer elections, oath ceremonies and administrative housekeeping.
Board members elected Bill Fonzone president after individual roll-call voting; the secretary announced Fonzone received five votes and declared him board president. George McCool was chosen earlier in the meeting to serve as temporary president and was later confirmed as vice president by acclamation. The board secretary presented oath-of-office certificates and administered the oath to newly seated directors.
A member of the public, identified in the record as Mr. Falkenstein, used the public-comment period to congratulate the new board members and said he received more than 3,300 votes in the general election. The board also moved and approved a motion designating newspapers of general circulation; the presiding officer reported a 9-yes voice tally and stated the motion carries.
The presider announced that existing committees will continue to function until formal committee appointments are posted at a future meeting; members who want to serve on operations or education committees were asked to email the presider or Mr. McCool. The reorganization meeting was adjourned and the board moved directly into scheduled committee meetings.
