The Unionville-Chadds Ford School District held its annual organizational meeting, swore in four newly elected school directors and elected its leadership for the coming year.
The secretary read certificates of election from the Chester County Board of Elections certifying Susan Elks, Joseph Everett, Sandra Litvin and Stephen Simonson as duly elected school directors. The temporary president administered the oath of office to members present; one newly elected director will take the oath upon return to the district.
Under Board Policy No. 5, the board elected a temporary president and then proceeded to elect officers by roll-call voice vote. Dr. Baratta was elected president (8-0) and Ms. Talbert was elected vice president (8-0). After the vote, Dr. Baratta said, “I will do my best to be a faithful servant of the district.”
Newly elected director Susan Elks introduced herself and said she was “happy to be here, happy to contribute” and listed priorities including community engagement, facilities and site planning, career pathways and student mental wellness. Another newly elected director said they were “overly excited to join the team” and emphasized career and college readiness.
The president said members would receive a form listing standing committees and asked members to submit preferences to Ms. Miller to guide committee appointments under Board Policy No. 005. The board adjourned the meeting and noted the district’s achievement report was rescheduled for the following Monday evening at 6:00 p.m., per the meeting announcement.
