Radnor policy committee updates academic standards policy to reflect new state STEELS framework

Dr. Hand presented Policy 102 (Academic Standards) as a required policy update to reflect recent changes in Pennsylvania's state standards. He said the policy language was updated to incorporate the multidisciplinary STEELS elements—science, technology, engineering, environmental science and sustainability—and that districts can expect further updates next year as financial literacy and other new requirements are phased in.
Committee members asked whether the policy text should directly mirror the state standards and whether the legal references should be hyperlinked. Dr. Hand said the administration will add links to legal citations and coordinate with curriculum staff on any substantive implementation matters.
Student representative Lucy Lasso said she appreciated seeing how much editing goes into the policies and supported clearer signposting for readers, such as putting cited titles in quotations so first‑time readers recognize the reference.
The committee moved Policy 102 to the full board for a first read; no curricular decisions or adoptions were made at the committee meeting.
