Construction on Scituate’s new school advances; foundation nearly complete, steel due soon
Summary
Superintendent Dr. Raab said excavation and foundation work are nearly finished, underground water-retention systems are being installed and steel framing is expected within weeks; a topping-off ceremony is targeted for early March.
Scituate Public Schools received a construction update Jan. 5 on the district’s new school. Dr. Raab reported that foundation excavation is nearly complete and that crews are installing underground water-retention systems this week.
"The foundation is actually gonna be finished this week or early next week," Dr. Raab said, and he added that steel is expected to arrive in the next couple of weeks. He estimated the steel erection will take roughly two months and said the district is targeting a topping-off ceremony for early March when the steel work finishes.
Dr. Raab said the contractor has been working with the town on runoff mitigation and that the project is progressing on schedule and within the reported budget. The committee asked about timing and drainage; staff confirmed ongoing coordination with the town and architects.
Next steps: the project team will return with a more comprehensive update at a future meeting when the OPM and architect are available.
