Millersville Borough Council on Jan. 5 authorized the borough solicitor to draft and advertise two ordinances to accept Lafayette Place streets for dedication and to establish traffic regulations on those streets, clearing a long-standing impediment to borough maintenance.

Mayor Phil Lestowski and borough staff said the streets in the Lafayette Place subdivision were not physically connected to the borough road network (they connect through Lynn Lane near Miller's Crossing), which previously prevented the borough from accepting them. Borough staff reported the developer, Grande, provided a payment to the borough equal to the liquid fuels funds that would have been due had the streets been part of the borough in the previous year. Council moved to authorize solic itor drafting and advertising of the ordinances; the motion passed by voice vote.

Borough Manager Rebecca DeSantis Bridal said accepting the streets would enable borough snow-removal and routine maintenance. "They will be getting snow removal services as well as general maintenance on their roads just like any other borough road," she said.

The manager said the ordinances, once drafted, would be advertised and scheduled for a public hearing likely later in January or in early February, depending on legal advertising deadlines. Council members did not request amendments to the drafting authorization; the motion granted staff and solicitor authority to prepare the legal notices and set the hearing date.

Next steps: borough solicitor will prepare the two ordinances; both will be advertised for public hearing and returned to council for final action in a subsequent meeting.
