The Shawnee Heights Board of Education opened the meeting with formal recognition of two departing members, Rosa Cavazos and Christina Fleming.

The chair summarized Cavazos’s eight years of service, citing resilience, service and ambition in a tribute that noted Cavazos’s volunteer work, board and committee participation and dedication to Shawnee Heights students. Cavazos spoke briefly about joining the board during the COVID era and said she had “tried to stand up for the, probably, few in most people's minds, but actually more than a few, who didn't agree with all the plans of the government or the district or masking, vaccinations, etcetera.”

Christina Fleming was recognized for four years of service. Fleming and colleagues highlighted her inquisitiveness and advocacy around curriculum, including an interest in reading instruction and supporting students who need to catch up. Board members offered personal remarks and thanks; several noted plans to honor volunteer service going forward.

The acknowledgment segment concluded with board members and administrators thanking both Ferrring and Cavazos for their contributions and wishing them well. The meeting then transitioned to regular reports and action items.
