The Caldwell City Council on Jan. 5 read a proclamation declaring Jan. 26 as National Stalking Awareness Month in the city of Caldwell, noting the prevalence of stalking and its connection to other forms of violence.

Acting Council President read the proclamation, which cited nationwide lifetime stalking statistics and described stalking behaviors that include unwanted calls, messages, following and the use of technology to track or harass. The proclamation also recognized Advocates Against Family Violence for providing safety, shelter and support for survivors.

Bridal Lofton, operations director at Advocates Against Family Violence, thanked the council for recognizing the month and said, "Stalking is a serious and often misunderstood crime rooted in power and control, and it impacts individuals and families right here in our Caldwell community." Lofton added that for many survivors stalking is ongoing and can escalate, especially when it overlaps with domestic violence, and noted local services are available.

The proclamation was entered on the meeting record with the date 01/05/2026.
