Lakewood board approves levy resolution, personnel actions and routine business

At its regular meeting the Lakewood City Schools board completed routine business and approved several formal actions required for levy placement and personnel management.
The board adopted the meeting agenda (motion moved and seconded) and approved minutes from prior meetings without corrections. On personnel, the board approved two resignations for the purpose of retirement (approval on one reading) and later approved a deputy treasurer employment contract on one reading; the deputy treasurer contract passed with one abstention.
On the district’s proposed operating levy, Finance Chair Mr. Callahan presented a resolution declaring it necessary to levy an additional 6.9 mills for current operating expenses and permanent improvements and requested that the Cuyahoga County fiscal officer certify valuation and revenue estimates under Ohio law (the motion cited Ohio Revised Code sections 5705.03 and 5705.217). The board approved the resolution by roll call. The resolution specifies that the levy will be first assessed for tax year 2026 and collected in 2027; Mr. Callahan said the district’s prior refinancing efforts will reduce debt-service millage by 2 mills and that the net tax-rate change to homeowners is presented as a local estimate of about $14 per month on a $100,000 home (about $168 per year).
A roll-call vote was recorded for the levy resolution and for personnel actions as required. Where members were recorded individually the meeting transcript shows the roll-call responses; one board member abstained on the deputy treasurer contract vote.
