At the public-comment portion of the meeting, resident Lisonbee Sinkoff described three water-main breaks in her neighborhood — one in July 2025 and two in December (Dec. 17 and Dec. 19) — that sent "torrents of water and mud" across Columbia Avenue, overwhelmed drainage and flooded finished lower levels and garages.

Sinkoff said homeowners have invested in mitigation (French drains, retaining walls and driveway grates) but remain vulnerable because street-level drainage is insufficient. She asked the city to "better ensure water drainage is directed away from all residential properties" in the area and thanked the street department and named staff for their quick response and communication.

Mayor Patterson and Director Stone responded: staff are looking into causes including aging mains and pump-induced pressure surges ('hammers'), and engineers are evaluating soft-start systems and broader corridor solutions that would replace lines and repave streets in concert to avoid repeated disruption. The mayor said crews would remain on top of the issue and that further work will proceed "as weather permits." No formal vote or funding authorization was taken at the meeting; council members directed staff to continue analysis and pursue appropriate repair projects and grant opportunities.

The comments and mayoral response made clear residents want quicker, longer-term solutions rather than repeated temporary repairs; council members said they would follow up through appropriate committees and administration channels.
