April Ham presented an updated investment policy and multiple budget amendments to the Alleghany County Board of Commissioners on Jan. 5. After brief presentation, a motion to approve the investment policy carried unanimously.
Ham said the Department of Social Services received $1,500 in unrestricted donations; commissioners approved a budget amendment to recognize those funds. She also reported a school‑violence prevention grant for the county law‑enforcement agency totaling $58,104; the board approved a budget amendment accepting and appropriating those grant dollars. Ham said additional Town of Sparta vehicle tax receipts require an increase by $70,000 to the county’s tax lines, and commissioners voted to add those amounts to the 2024–25 tax lines. Finally, Ham said $21,928 would be removed from a line of SCIF facility improvement funds because those dollars had already been expended, bringing that line to zero; the related budget amendment was approved.
All motions on the investment policy and the listed budget amendments were moved, seconded and approved by recorded voice or voice tally (recorded as 5–0 in the transcript).
