The Susquehanna Township SD school board completed its annual reorganization at a meeting in which members delayed the treasurer election, administered oaths to newly sworn officers and elected new leadership.
Board members voted to remove the treasurer election from this evening's agenda to allow more discussion of the treasurer duties and potential role conflicts with district business office responsibilities. A motion to amend the agenda was made, seconded and approved by voice vote.
Nominations opened for board president. Jesse Ross was nominated and seconded; nominations were closed and the board proceeded with a voice/roll-call process that resulted in Ross being selected as president. Outgoing President Jesse Rawls was acknowledged by board members for 16 years of service and for his recent two-year term as board president.
The board then nominated Tamika Hatcher for vice president. During discussion supporters emphasized accountability and openness to colleagues. The board approved Hatcher in a roll-call vote recorded in the meeting as "7 0 2," which the transcript presents immediately after the roll call.
Several board members also completed oaths of office at the start of the meeting. Eric Hedenberg recited the oath aloud, beginning, "I, Eric Hedenberg. Do solemnly swear..." and was congratulated by colleagues.
The meeting concluded shortly after the leadership votes when a motion to adjourn passed by voice vote.
The board did not elect a treasurer at this meeting; members said the matter would return after additional discussion.
