Calaveras County proclaims September Suicide Prevention and Childhood Cancer awareness months

The Calaveras County Board of Supervisors on Sept. 9 adopted proclamations recognizing September 2025 as Suicide Prevention Awareness Month and Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
Board members moved and approved the suicide-prevention proclamation after a behavioral health official and peer-support staff described the personal and community impacts of suicide and urged increased awareness and resources. Peer support specialist Rosalynn Mary invited residents to a Hope and Healing walk on Sept. 17 at Turner Park to honor those lost and to stand with people in crisis.
Separately the board approved a proclamation for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, citing national statistics and local support organizations that assist families facing pediatric cancer. Both proclamations were approved by voice vote and the board encouraged community involvement in the events and resources identified by health staff.
The proclamations were ceremonial recognitions and did not direct funding or regulatory action; staff and county partners said they will continue outreach and programming connected to the awareness events.
