During Steering Committee A, Director Markham presented a proposed sign for the David Culley Recreational Complex and said a vendor had provided a design and proposal. Commissioners questioned whether the sign would be lit, its placement given state scenic‑highway rules, and its cost. Staff indicated the sign proposal would be “not to exceed” the committee’s budgeted amount.
A motion to approve the sign as presented with the allotted budget amount failed after discussion about aesthetics, previous design expectations and where the sign would be sited. Following the failed motion, the chair appointed a sign design committee with Commissioners Becky Golden and Chris Brewington and asked that group to present alternatives at the next meeting.
Commissioners expressed frustration that the issue had been debated for several years and urged the design committee to produce options that better match the original vision while remaining within the budget. Staff confirmed the committee could pursue quotes and bring an achievable design back for approval.
The committee did not adopt the proposed sign; the charted next step is the design committee producing options for review at the following meeting.
