A student panel at the Nov. 17 Unionville-Chadds Ford School District meeting highlighted career-technical labs, student wellness ideas and a gratitude initiative honoring school staff; board members praised the presentations and thanked the students.
Unionville High School students told the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District board on Nov. 17 about hands-on learning, extracurricular connections and plans to show gratitude to support staff.
Gavin Breske, an English teacher who moderated the panel, introduced seniors and underclassmen who described classroom, club and career experiences. UHS senior Udot, a participant in the TCHS veterinary science program, said the course is roughly 25% theory and 75% labs and allows graduates to earn credentials to work as veterinary assistants immediately after graduation. "I would say, please go for it," Udot said, urging students interested in veterinary careers to apply.
Freshman Lucas Kopp said the transition from middle to high school brings more homework and responsibility, and he hopes to improve his math skills through the school's math club and AMC competitions. Charlie Zucchero, treasurer of Future Business Leaders of America, described a schoolwide stock-market challenge as a fundraiser and a way to teach finance and civic engagement. "This project…helped me realize money and the business world are my passion," he said.
Students also discussed wellness. Amelia Stuber recommended more outdoor time during lunch and varied club options to reduce stress. Mark Hopkins highlighted Best Buddies and bocce as programs that helped him build friendships across the school.
Several students tied their remarks to the district theme of gratitude. Yara described plans for students to write personal letters to custodial, security and office staff and to host a breakfast to show appreciation for employees who support daily school operations.
Superintendent Doctor Hoffman and Principal Mister Crater praised the students' presentations. The board welcomed the student perspective and acknowledged how the panel connected daily classroom programs and extracurricular activities to broader goals—career readiness, well-being and community engagement.
The student presentations led into the remainder of the board's regular meeting, which included board business and approvals.
